1. Good opinion piece. My dad, Gérald, was involved in the organization of many of these so-called fairs, in his capacity as District Agriculturist for Gloucester County in NB. These were identified as agricultural exhibitions but featured a number of other things such as homemade pies and preserves, as well as local art and handicrafts. They were made possible through the hard work and dedication of numerous organizations including the 4H clubs, the Ladies’ Institutes, the local entrepreneurs, gardening clubs, etc. They were true cummunity-bssed affairs. There is still one each fall in Kent County (Ste-Marie-de-Kent).
