Lost & Burnt

Lost … burnt

Lost? Yes George, that is it, lost.

It’s like this … Here I am … The little woman … Well that’s what they used to call us once upon a time … That is how women on my generation were socialized … The little woman … Stay at home … Care for the kids … Volunteer … So many good causes …

Where are we now?
Well … This old Granny is trying … Quite desperately perhaps … To make music. Beautiful music? Hmmm depends upon the eye of the beholder, so they say.

So there I was, trying to get an especially difficult passage … Guess what? Supper burnt.

So what is one burnt meal out of thousands …
Today is another day … In the kitchen or the music room

Here is the Pizza I made us for supper, cheese to be added …

Let’s just say it’s another Pizza art

Pizza

The amazing pizza made with making music while the dough raised

It’s fuzzy because … Well just because my idea of cooking is that it’s one way of spreading love and happiness throughout the known universe …. Hmmmm … And beyond wish you were here to share

Sewer Backup?

Water water everywhere
Nary a drop is free
For the property owner
Who pays?
Free water?
Free sewer?
Guess who pays?
City hall?
You so funny George.
How many tax grabs
Can one poor property owner handle
Without going under?
You might even
Need a lawyer
To figure who pays what.
Another Tax grab?

So turn off the water?
Tear down the building?
Nope … According to city hall it doesn’t matter if you don’t use the water and sewerage … It doesn’t even matter if it’s an empty lot. The owner will still be charged water and sewerage fees. Now does that seem fair? I ask you George. What’s a poor senior on a fixed income to do? And they wonder why business in Bathurst is not booming.

New notice from Fredericton, New Brunswick
Looking for artists (knitters, crocheters, weavers, felters, and quilters )

to work for free …

… until January 29
… accepting handmade goods for newly arrived Syrian refugees.
They want hand-made mittens, hats, sweaters, socks, blankets and throws for all ages to stay warm during a New-Brunswick winter.

Drop-off locations for donations:

artsnb office at 649 Queen street, 2nd floor
Yarns On York at 72 York street
Fredericton Public Library at 12 Carleton

What do you think? Great idea! But why stop there? Do you suppose there might be some homeless New Brunswick street people who would also appreciate nice newly knitted warm fuzzy mitts and hats and socks and sweaters and blankets too.
Also …

How about if the NGOs and businesses and Government do-good agencies paid the artists (knitters, crocheters, weavers, felters, and quilters) for the their time and creativity?

Also George … Maybe if the refugees were donated some nice wool and needles … Do you suppose they might like to knit their own? Canadian winters are not only freezing cold … They can be long and boring with nothing much to do unless you have money to go out somewhere.
Hang out in malls? Even buses cost money.

By its resolution 217 A (III) of 10 December 1948, the General Assembly, meeting in Paris, adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with eight nations abstaining from the vote but none dissenting. Hernán Santa Cruz of Chile, member of the drafting sub-Committee, wrote:”

Your words leave me nearly speechless. Here in Canada we are so far away that sometimes the stories seem more like attempts to rake in money. Your words really bring this tragedy home. I will no t click the like button because there really is nothing to like about the whole world becoming entangled in one war after another. You are right to remind us that love has no borders. Peace.

Coming home from Kos has been a very surreal experience. Of course, every experience in life will change you but when you step back into your everyday life it’s important to do that… to go back to normality. You get up in the morning, you go to work, you have dinner with family, you go for drinks with friends, you do what you always do and you get on with things. But as you go about these normal things you know something is different. You are maybe home in body but your head is still filled with what is happening in Europe. You are home, but a part of you has been left behind.

You wake up in the morning, grab a coffee and head to work. Someone starts talking about economic migrants… You take a deep breath and think about the soaking wet babies you met most nights of…

Expect Respect

Expect what?
At least respect.

Expect …
Expect or hope for …
What does woman expect?
When does hope die?
When does woman realize
After years of waiting patiently
That a promise is not a guarantee.
The promise of education …
The promise of a decent job …
The promise of financial security …
The promise of justice …
Promises exchanged for votes
Promises …

Women trusted.
Women voted.
Women waited.

What can women expect?
What will women do
When they realize
At the end of the road
That the promises
Were broken.

Will women bow their heads
Docile, broken brood-mares?

Will they go silent
Into a paupers grave?

Yes man has expectations
But woman cannot speak for man.

Woman watches silently
Else she joins man.
United they are
Under yoke
As off they go
To play war games.
