New Dawn

New Dawn … This has absolutely nothing to do with sundance.  It  is about reaching for  your own share of  sunshine   and avoiding that which is harmful to self and others.

Grannies possess a mysterious and ageless beauty that words don’t reach. Each Granny has her own unique kind of beauty.

Human

Human? Hmmm … As in sacrifice? Oh well try the Department of the Environment. What the old folks used to call Ecology.

Oh you mean human as in humanity? That particular quality of Homus … Well it is not quite popular these days. Pretty far down the line I’d say. Best forget that one.

Well yes, there still are humans around. Going fast I’d say. Oh … Give them another decade or so and they’ll be properly …. Hmmm socialized … Educated … Assimilated …

Mustn’t forget about gentrification too.

Where did I discover this? Pretty obvious, isn’t it? Anywhere and everywhere … Hmmm and that new environmental disease is … What did you call it again?

Shares? Shares in what exactly?

Granny Farmers Market

Granny has opened a Farmers Market. It is a big empty hall with tables. A vendor at each table operates a micro-business.

Isn’t That Sweet

Yummy, Cookie Pies

American Soaps, Natural too

You Don’t Say
George, do you think Granny is stuck between successes again?
A market, she says! Now what kind of a market is that? She needs more than a few vendors. The weather? Blame it on the weather? What about poor planning, George? What about that?

Hmmmm needs a special feature … Yes sign up for craft class. Reasonable rates, I think. Sign up here

Let’s see if we can find Granny a few more vendors.

Harpin’ Without a Harper … With no Harp … The Rock Opera in Progress

2018 July 1

Some folks will be waving red and white flags and celebrating Canada Day. Here I am still waiting for that Irish Harper or maybe an Irish fiddler or piper to help build up interest in Irish sessions at the Doucet-Hennessy House in Bathurst, New Brunswick Canada. I’d invite the piano-player but our piano is sadly out of tune and there are no funds to tune it.

Don’t Forget You’re Irish Art exhibit opens to the public July 3. Drop by Tuesday to Saturday for a cup of tea and a chat at the historic Doucet-Hennessy House in Bathurst, New Brunswick. If you play Celtic or Acadian music or any sort of traditional folk music, we hope to have informal music sessions on Saturdays from 2-4. Bring along your acoustic instrument and join us. Music workshops are in the planning for September.

Maybe we local Artists have finally found our place on Chaleur Bay.

Keep checking in to catch updates on happenings. Hope to have new videos posted soon

Looking back:
2017
January 2
A new day has dawned.
Some might say
A time for change
What was it
That old man said
Be the change?
There is in memory
From long ago
An expression
A French saying
Mette la table
The spelling might
Be not quite right
But hey!
I set my table
The best I can
The best I am able
With good wishes
Peace and joy
Justice for all
As I serve
What I gather
From Mettacentre.org

………………….Horizon……………………………
Times are changing.
2016 is almost over.
The Harper knave
Never arrived

All those years
We waited
In precarity
While all across
This great country
Ad usque ad mare
As some might say
Bad spelling notwithstanding
Even those
Who never took a stand
For or against
We waited
For the Harper
Who never arrived.

Another year has gone by
Quickly so quickly
It is now December 2016

Much has happened
Still
We have no place

Artists and musicians
We struggle
In this place
Asking for little
Besides a safe place
To live and work.
For food they say
You must pay more
No one will tell us
Why that is.

Imagine
What this world would be
Without artists and musicians.
Yes, philosophers too
And others who care …
Nobody asking questions
That need to be asked.

A Study?
Yet another study?
While we languish
These last few years
While they study
Us to death.

Green White Orange work in Progress

June 24, 2013
Today I ponder painting … My painting … The orange green and white painting I had hoped to finish and post today.

Work in progress … That’s what it is … Work in progress … Good name for an artpiece that gets stuck somewhere between the “so inspired” and “don’t quite get it” stage … that space where the little voice begins to niggle and you wonder whether this one is any good … Whatever “good” means.

Good enough? For what? Compared to what?

Cups and saucers

That the expression “oh you are so talented” might make an artist squirm isn’t unusual and the squirming does not necessarily mean the artist is modest and awkward about accepting compliments.

Talented is simply not the best word to use.

Why? Because an artist’s work is just that … Work! That the artist might actually enjoy the work is something else.

So much of art is really about seeing and working … Stepping back and looking again … perhaps from a new angle … trying to communicate what is seen … Reworking the art … re-aligning an image over and over both in the mind and on the canvas.

I am doing just that sort of reworking on the painting I started last week, the one I thought I could quickly finish in a day. A new week has begun and I am still struggling … Ahh … work in progress … Now there is a useful expression.

Now if I can just learn to accept my limitations … Learn to overlook the implication of “talent contest” every time I hear the word “talent” and be brave enough to paint my own unique vision … Well like the song goes,
“Everything is gonna be alright”.

Meanwhile here is my green and white and orange work in progress …

Yesterday

Looking back to what I did yesterday and the day before … And I think … An art project … Or a peace project … Can there ever really be a finishing point?
Don’t these things just go on and on … So how does one set a price? What if there is no buyer? Is it all just wasted time and effort?

What is art worth … What is peace worth?

Cuppa tea

Cuppa tea

Here is another bit of teacup art I did at the House. … That’s right I’ve yet to talk about the House … Well that is where my studio was until I moved to my new studio
Ok now time for tea … Yes a teapot full of tea would be nice …

The kettle is on … Yes I have started on a new painting. Hmmm well … We’ll see George … We’ll see.
