My idea of Job Share is as follows.
I see a great job that I’d love to have but I don’t have the qualifications or background or the hundred other attributes that employers usually demand.
October 1, 2015 and I just found what looks like a great fob for someone
Not me I tell you
Not for me
I am an artist
You will agree
Not exactly
My cup of tea
But for someone
A Bathurst job
Paying good wages
Is such a dream
Eureka!
An artist job
Can this be true?
Mixed-media artist
Just will not do
My dream job is in Toronto. Like any good Canadian I love Montreal. But I love Toronto even more and would be so happy to live there.
So, why do I mention it? Because I was born to share I guess. My need to share comes out of years of experience. No, I am not speaking about actual paying-job experience. I’ve had little enough of that. I mean the sort of experience one gets from years of job-hunting, groveling before gatekeepers and volunteering help wherever and whenever I have seen a real need.
So …
If I were a salesman I might tell you that you’d better jump at this job since the offer is only open for one or two more days. Sigh, how many times have we heard that one?
So … My name is Sharon (I love how that sounds like sharin’) and here is the dream job I found today.

And why would I need a job, some might ask. Don’t I already have so much to do in my lovely studio at 212 St Andrew Street in Bathurst? Yes, but like most artists I am unable to make a living by my art. While I love what I do, winter is coming, NBPower rates will be going up and the studio will be getting cold. Already I must wear a warm sweater and leg warmers. Soon I will be wearing gloves to work as I did when I rented my studio at the Doucet-Hennessy House a few years back. This year I am presented with an additional challenge. A broken leg keeps me somewhat immobile and unable to move around enough to keep warm while I am working.
The MAGGIEQUINN Studio in Bathurst …
Hey … Even a broken leg cannot keep the unsinkable MaggieQuinn down for long.
NOTICE:It is now almost November and Maggiequinn is back on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, 10 am – 3 pm Continue reading
Working on it George …
Ever heard of cold calling, George?
Or would that be cold calls?
No matter.
All amounts to the same thing … Hustlin … Long enough and hard enough and if you don’t give up in despair … Eventually …
No, George … Besides … what’s the use in getting discouraged?
But I’ve already shown you 9 pieces … Did you not like even one, George?
Yes, George I know you can get pictures already matted and framed at Wall-mart for under $25.00
And I understand … you want to be sure you get the most bang for your buck. And you really only are interested in artists with a NAME.
This Granny has been working very very hard. Did you like not even one of the nine I showed you? There are only so many years left George … I cannot go on forever doing art and never getting paid. You think I’m not working hard enough at it? My art is not good enough … You think I’ve just not tried hard enough … Not really worked my arse off?
Hmmm … Well … A person only has so much arse they can work off … If you get what I mean … OK OK OK … one #10 coming up … Will that be with or without?
Ok … Here you are … One #10
First let me tell you a little story … Happened yesterday … Not an auspicious day overall … I was busy cleaning … No time to work at my sound sculpture … Did receive some comments … Favourable? Hmmmm … One person appeared to like it … Said it was just the idea he needed … Would copy it to fill an empty space in his house … Money? … Money, did you say? As in … Did he offer to pay me for using my idea? What do you think, George?
Sigh … Ok here is #10

A contest George? You think that life is a contest between Health, Sport, & Active Living on one side and Arts on the other? Really? You think the only active healthy people are hockey players ... Might depend on how much bench time they occupy ... ice-time? That too.
Let's face it George. We canna all be hockey stars. Nice job if ye can get it. Or as they say around here "GO MAN GO"
Or maybe ...
Go mamm go ... Are there any women on the TITAN TEAM?
Health, Sport, & Active Living
So ... You asked ... What does art have to do with Health, Sport, & Active Living?
Think George ... Think ...
Not sure huh? No George ... Martial Arts is not quite what we are all about. However, I did once design a poster for a local martial Arts Club. That was many years ago George. Sigh ... Just one more in a long list of volunteer efforts to support healthy activities in my community. Artists do that sort of thing, did you know, George?
There were other periods in my life when I visited people who were in hospitals and special schools. The idea was to share my art gifts with them, teach them to draw or share conversations that perhaps only an artist might be willing to share. One of these people had never gone to school, living his entire life in a bed or a wheelchair. I encouraged him to draw and read and think outside his small room in the institution where he lived. I pushed his wheelchair on walks outside the building when the weather was fine. The only other activity provided by the institution was the occasional game of Bingo, which is hardly more of a healthy sport than Art, do you think George?
Think of Arts as one more option George.
During the coming weeks and months this is where I will be mentioning all the wonderful people and organizations and businesses and government departments and politicians who are helping me pull together all the bits and pieces for a successful Spring Garden of Artists Festival.
So far it really is grass-roots, running on a $000.00 budget with anonymous individual artists and supporters and one lone business.
Thank you to all the anonymous people who are helping. Your support is inspiring.
